Hello & welcome to traveljunkies

Who are we?

What do we do?

What we don't do!

How we can help you!

Who are we?

I'm Cliff and my wife is Maureen and we live on Hayling Island, Hampshire on the South Coast of England.

Our daughter Alison has lived in Queensland and New South Wales and is now in Perth, Western Australia.

Together we run traveljunkies where we promote businesses worldwide in the travel, tourism and activities sectors.

Without boring you with our life histories, we believe it's important you know who we are before you decide to do business with us.

Cliff at Oktoberfest, Munich, Germany
(a few years ago)

I'm Cliff and after a working for nearly 30 years with IBM UK in various technical, management & consultancy roles I left to work independently for a few years until I "semi-retired" in 2001. Since then we've had a few businesses in the travel & tourism industry in Australia and I've continued to develop traveljunkies, first as a hobby and now as a business. My hobbies are travel of course, golf (now that I'm past playing squash), and until recently I was Chairman of a registered Charity for people with learning disabilities. Nothing very exciting has happened to us although Maureen & I nearly got thrown out of bed in Queenstown, New Zealand in October 2007 when an earthquake measuring 6.7 hit the area at 1.30 in the morning.

Maureen landing on Mission Beach, Queensland, Australia

Maureen began her working career at a Mechant Bank moving on to become the Personal Assistant to a director of Mobil Oil Company in London. After bringing up our two daughters she returned to work running the office for a friend who is a Cabinet Maker. Maureen has also spent many years working for the Charity leaving little time for other hobbies although she did step out of a plane at 14,000 feet a few years ago and after free-falling and then floating over the ocean, she landed gently on a beautiful beach in Queensland, Australia. She was strapped to a qualified jump master at the time.

Alison after another exhilarating solo jump

Alison left college to become a veterinary nurse in the UK before moving to Australia in 2000, where she set up and ran businesses in the travel & tourism industry in North Queensland. These included an Information Station/Internet Cafe, a water sports business running jet ski tours around Dunk Island which unfortunately suffered when Cyclone Larry destroyed the resort in March 2006, and a bar & restaurant in Mission Beach which was sold when she decided to go back to her first love, working with animals. She moved from the tropical north to Coffs Harbour in NSW in 2007 to work again as a veterinary nurse. She and her partner have recently had a baby boy, Matari, and have now moved to Perth to concentrate on her work for traveljunkies. Ali is a qualified skydiver and looks forward to the time when she can jump out of planes again.
Known to some of her friends by her nickname Gypsy, she has travelled extensively and while driving across Canada in 2007 she found it difficult to get up-to-date regional information on accommodation, tours & attractions etc. and this prompted us to re-launch traveljunkies.

Is there anything else you'd like to know?

Just ask us and we will get back to you right away.

Best regards & great travelling

What do we do?

At traveljunkies we promote businesses in the travel, tourism and activities industries.

We started back in 2002 as an "early day blog" for scuba diving and skydiving, but it soon became clear people wanted more than that and other activies such as whitewater rafting, rock climbing, skiing and all kinds of water sports, as well as accommodation and travel soon got added.

Today we have over 3000 businesses in traveljunkies covering most activities in nearly every country in the world.

Yes, if you want to go trekking on horseback in Mongolia we have several businesses listed who are ready to serve you.

We promote businesses by giving a FREE LISTING (totally free, no strings) on our website.

We also offer various paid advertisements that are the best value for money on the Internet. You can see our prices in the How We Can Help You section.

All payments for advertisements are via Paypal so you don't pass on credit card details or your bank information to us. Paypal is completely secure, easy to use and you don't need a Paypal account.

Again, if you want to know more or would like a free listing for your business, go here

 and give us your details.

What we don't do!

There's no re-routing, no pop-ups, no commissions and no booking fees

  • All traveljunkies listings and advertisements link directly to your own website, there's no re-routing to other websites or special offers.
  • And because there are no pop-ups or re-routing to other sites, visitors aren't taken away from traveljunkies and therefore away from your advertisement.
  • traveljunkies doesn't take bookings because it links directly to your website. You take all bookings on your own site so there's no commissions or booking fees to pay.

We don't list our email address. Like many businesses we risk getting flooded with spam so we handle all communication through our Contact Us page.

We don't list our telephone number because we work from home and deal with businesses worldwide and we can't control when the phone rings. So if you want to talk to us please email us your telephone number and a message and we will happily call you at a convenient time.

We don't ask for your credit card or bank details. All payments for advertisements are via Paypal so you don't pass on credit card details or your bank information to us. Paypal is completely secure, easy to use and you don't need a Paypal account.

We hate spam as much as you do so we will never pass on your details without your expressed permission to do so.

How traveljunkies can help your business

 "if you don't already have a free listing in this directory go and get one. There's absolutely no charge and no strings attached. It will take you just 1 minute to enter your name, email address, website address, and your one-line description in the comment box, It's as quick and simple as that.

But first, read this article to see what else we offer then come back here for your free listing."

 Let's look at the problem, or more likely the problems, and ask yourself these 4 questions.

  •   Are you getting enough traffic visiting your website?
  • Are you getting plenty of visitors to your site but they’re not becoming customers?
  • Is your advertising getting the results you want?
  • Are you advertising in the most cost effective places?

If your answer to any of these questions is "no" then it means one thing. There's so much competition on the Internet and your website is competing with millions of others in the travel & tourism industry and you're not getting enough qualified traffic to your website.

Why do you have these problems?

  • Advertising in the right place at the right time isn't easy
  • Everybody else is doing the same thing.
  • Your advertising may be promoting your product or service rather than promoting your website.
  • Your advertising isn't driving traffic to your website because you’re not using the right words. It’s also why the search engines aren't finding you.
  • And of course, you have a limited budget

How can you fix them?

  • The real trick is to focus on advertising and promoting your website, nothing else.
    Don’t make your adverts a mini version of your website, after all your website is designed to do your selling. That’s what you paid for.
  • Make your adverts stand out from the crowd. Attract attention. Be outrageous. (See Tip below for an example)
  • Make sure your advert is shown near the top of the list "above the fold", because many people never scroll down a page.
  • Choose a picture that stands out. Many visitors arrive at websites in the travel & tourism industry as a result of seeing Google Images.
  • Make it easy for people to find you and contact you. Include your web address (and email address or phone no or other contact info) in all your adverts.
  • Don’t ask for lots of information, it puts people off. Name and email address is often enough.
  • Use keywords and phrases that potential customers search for to promote your website. They want to buy what you sell, otherwise they wouldn't be there. They will buy from someone, why not you?
  • Be careful where you advertise. Use companies that add value to your advertising and avoid those that just want to sell you space or other services to do the things you can’t.
  • Have it all done for you in one place at a very good price.

Tip - If you are near to a nude beach then say so in your advertisement. "Nude" and "naked" are the most searched words on our website.

What should you do?  Place your advertisement now.  It's terrific value.

"The highly respected Thomas Register (www.thomasnet.com) survey showed the effect of an ad's ability to generate response. The study showed that the biggest ad on the page gets forty times the response of an ordinary one-line directory listing. Even a boldface listing generates twice the response of a listing in ordinary type."

Why advertise in traveljunkies?

  • Your advertisement will be found. Because traveljunkies is a Search Engine, just like Google only smaller, and your advertisement will be found when any word in your advertisement is entered in the Search Keyword box.
  • Your advertisement appears above all free listings, in other words "Above the Fold".  It's a fact that many people never scroll down a page which is why advertisements outperform free listings 10 to 1.

  •  Your advertisement will have the picture you choose. And as you know, a picture says a thousand words.
  • People who visit traveljunkies are your prospects who will link to your website with a single click.
  • The traveljunkies website receives over 400 visitors every day and is growing.
  •  154,395 searches were made to our client's websites in 2010.
  • We will create your advertisement for you at no extra charge to save you the time and trouble of doing it yourself, or the expense of getting somebody else to do it for you.
  • And your advertisement can be updated at any time to show your special offers, promotions, significant events, changes to your own website etc. etc.  Just tell us what you want and we will do it for you at no extra charge.
  • Here's the advertisement we set up for our client Aurum Lodge, an Eco Lodge owned and run by Alan and Madeleine Ernst, located close to the Rocky Mountains in Nordegg, a small hamlet in Alberta, Canada.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Aurum Lodge had a problem
....
Alan told us …………
Our facility is located in a very remote area and the closest village (and our PO Box) is Nordegg. Unfortunately, no one has ever heard of Nordegg before which is understandable, as it is a hamlet of 100 residents off the beaten track. However, it is ideally located to explore the mountains and parts of Banff and Jasper National Parks. The only way someone will even look at Nordegg is if they are made aware of the fact that it is near the Rocky Mountains and the Banff National Park, etc. At that point, they might suddenly decide that they prefer to stay in Nordegg, rather than Banff.”
So we set up this advertisement.
Aurum Lodge - Nordegg, Alberta, Canada
Aurum Lodge is located in a wilderness setting, overlooking the turquoise waters of Abraham Lake at an altitude of 1,350 metres in the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Explore the Canadian Rocky Mountains (the Rockies) or go cycling, kayaking, canoeing, hiking, snow-shoeing or dog sledding in the beautiful countryside. Banff National Park and the Icefield Parkway between Lake Louise and Jasper are nearby. We are a family owned and operated eco tourism lodge and an award-winning member of the Charming Inns of Alberta. Visit our website and download our brochure. We very much look forward to welcoming you to Aurum Lodge.
As you can see, the advertisement includes places to visit and activities to be enjoyed and this means that Aurum Lodge will be found when any words in the advertisement are used in the Keyword Search.
  • Try it ... Go to the top of this page & hit the Home button then in the Keyword Search box enter Eco or Rockies or Banff or wilderness or hiking, or snow shoeing or any combination of these and Aurum Lodge will be found.
  • And more ... you can set up your advertisement and choose your own picture, or we can do it for you. Alan & Madeleine didn’t write their advertisement, we wrote it for them and selected the picture from their website, they just approved it after asking us to make a few changes.
  • This is all part of our service at no extra charge.
  • And even more ... we will change your advertisement any time you want, so if there's a special event in your area or you want to do a special offer or promotion, just let us know and we'll handle it for you, again at no extra charge.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

What you do get by advertising in traveljunkies? You get "great value"

For just US$ 97 per year . . . .

We will set up your advertisement for you if you wish at no extra charge.

  • And ... we will update your advertisement  for you at any time to show your special offers, promotions, significant events, changes to your own website etc. etc. at no extra charge.
  • And ... there is just one price which means everybody is treated equally. You aren’t penalised by other advertisers who are willing to pay more to get a higher ranking.
  • And ... you have nothing to lose. If you aren’t happy with your advertisement just let us know and we’ll change it, or if you wish to cancel then email us within 60 days and we’ll refund your subscription in full with no questions asked.
  • And ... it’s safe and secure. All payments are by credit/debit card and made through Paypal for your security and convenience. We don't have any access to your credit/debit card details.
  • And ... it's quick and easy.  Paypal handles the currency conversion and you don’t need a Paypal account.

So don’t delay, get a head start on your competition for business in 2011.

With very best wishes
